From May until August this summer, CNYC is hosting a Culture Camp with pre-camp sessions running May-August. Youth aged 12-25 are welcome to drop into CNYC to learn about Aboriginal culture, practices and arts. The pre-camp sessions are intended to prepare youth to go on a three-day, two-night camping trip in mid-August. These skill-building sessions are facilitated by our camp coordinator are include a wide range of cultural teachings and activities including drum making, rattle making, nature walks and much more!
CNYC and PAVED Arts partnered to provide several youth with the opportunity to attend workshops focused on lyric writing, music production, sound engineering, performance skills and teamwork. The lyrical portion of the Rap & Rhythm workshops, facilitated by Indigenous hiphop artists Zoey Pricelys Roy and Lindsay Eekwol Knight, was held at CNYC, while the recording, mixing and sound engineering took place at PAVED Arts and was coordinated by Muskwa Lerat and and Eli Temple. These workshops were a huge success, yielding five songs and one collaborative track for which a music video was shot and edited by Bryn Becker.
